PM Gilani vows to protect democracy
Addressing a public gathering in Multan on Sunday, he said that the conspiracy to start a confrontation between the institutions would be thwarted, while all state organs would function in accordance with the Constitution.
“We will firmly hold our grip on the democracy and the constitution and will fully protect the 1973 Constitution of Pakistan,” he said.
He said the Army has its own role and that is to safeguard the country’s borders. The premier further said the army is successfully battling against the militants.
Gen (retd) Musharraf would often say that he would not let Benazir Bhutto and Nawaz Sharif to enter the country, but they both returned. And the one who has no place in the country is Musharraf himself, added Gilani.
The Prime Minister said that it is the government’s responsibility to solve the challenges facing the country.
“Had we boycotted the last general election, judiciary would not have been reinstated,” he said, adding that the government honored the pledge Benazir Bhutto had made about restoration of the deposed judges.
Benazir Bhutto had also convinced Mian Nawaz Sharif to contest the polls, he said.
