Interior Minister appeals Ulema for peace KARACHI: Interior Minister Rehman Malik Sunday said that he had directed the Interior Secretary to form a joint investigation team to probe the incidents that had occurred in Faisalabad and Dera Islmail Khan.

The Interior Minister was talking to newsmen after holding a meeting with a delegation of Ulema hete at Rangers Mess.

The delegation comprised Mufti Munib-ur-Rehman, Maulana Asad Thanvi, Shahid Ghauri and other Ulema. Capital Police Officer (CCPO) Wasim Ahmed also attended the meeting.

Rehman Malik said people belonging to Deo Bandi and Brailvi schools of thought are each other’s brothers and that they will foil the nefarious designs of those who are attempting to pit them against each other.

Mufti Munib-ur-Rehman on the occasion said a joint communiqué has been prepared in the meeting which condemned the incidents that took place in Faisalabad, Dera Ismail Khan and Karachi.

He demanded of the government to give financial assistance amounting to Rs1 million each to the families the deceased of these incidents besides bearing the expenses of education of their children.

Mufti Munib-ur-Rehman said the culprits behind the violent incidents be traced and taken to task without any discrimination.

The Interior Minister said he would undertake a visit of the affected areas along with the Ulema representing both the schools of thought.
