  NIPW workers continue protest, sit-in KARACHI: The workers of the National Programme for Improvement of Watercourses (NPIW) continued staging protest and sit-in in front of Karachi Press Club after collapse of 17 hours at a stretch, protesting against Sindh government over delay in regularizing the services of employees, Geo news reported.

The protest commenced at 11 am on Friday, which is still underway since then.

Earlier, the workers of (NPIW) were baton charged and tear-gassed while they were moving towards the Chief Minister (CM) Sindh house.

The leader of PML-Q Marvi Memon, PML-N leader Sardar Raheem, Chairman JISQM Basheer Qureshi and the leaders of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) addressed the protestors, calling upon government to make the services of workers NIPW permanent.

The workers of NPIW on Friday night gathered at the Karachi Press Club (KPC) in protest and demanded the government to regularize all 3000 workers who were doing jobs in NPIW on contractual basis.

During the period they decided to move towards the CM Sindh House for the continuation of the protest, when they moved from KPC and neared Shaheen Complex a heavy contingent of police personnel had blocked their way and told them not to move forward, but they resisted.

In the meantime, the police led a baton charge and also tear gassed the protestors to disperse them, afterwards, the workers and protestors moved back to KPC and launched their protest and claimed that the police had arrested several of their workers during a crackdown against them.

Moreover, a member of the National Assembly, Marvi Memon reached KPC and joined the protesting group in support.
