Police torture akin to supremacy of wilderness: CJ PESHAWAR: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Iftikhar Mohammed Chaudhry has stated seeing police officials flogging suspects in public seems there is hegemony of wilderness and lawlessness in our country, Geo news reported.

This CJP remarked amid hearing suo motto case of police torture in public occurred in Chiniot police station here in Peshawar on early Friday.

He called upon police department for taking concrete actions against accused police officials of lashing suspects in public, adding that merely suspension of police personnel will serve no good to law and order in country.

The three-member bench of Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP), comprising Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammed Chaudhry himself, Justice Khalgi Arif Hussain and Chaudhry Ejaz Ahmed heard the proceeding of the suo motto case.

Also, the bench has issued the inquiry committee of submission of complete report on the issue latest by March 11, 2010, sources told reporters.

CJ has summoned Advocate General of Punjab to appear before SCP on March 11, 2010, sources said further.

The hearing of the case has been adjourned till March 11, 2010.
