Sell of sugar at Rs 38 to 40/kg must be ensured: SC
A Supreme Court bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry heard the case of sugar prices. In his remarks, Chief Justice Iftikhar said Utility Stores have failed to provide inexpensive commodities to the consumers.
Acting Attorney General Shah Khawar in his arguments said that the government formulating short term and long term policies to resolve sugar crisis.
Chief Justice in his remarks during the hearing said the government should set up ration depots in low-income and rural areas to provide sugar on cheaper rates. Later, the hearing has been adjourned till tomorrow.
